NEDC Leader Available to Respond to Teigen Embryo Controversy

Contact: Mark Mellinger, 865-777-2013 ext 4, mmellinger@baby4me.net

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 26, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- NEDC President and Medical Director Dr. Jeffrey Keenan, a highly-respected infertility and reproductive medicine specialist, is available this afternoon to respond to the current social media firestorm caused by celebrity Chrissy Teigen's announcement this week that she and husband John Legend chose to implant a female embryo for their first child, with whom Teigen is now pregnant.

Dr. Keenan is an IVF expert who is happy to clear up any confusion about embryo implantation and/or gender selection that this controversy has brought to light.

As a Christian medical ethicist, Dr. Keenan is troubled by the practice of gender selection when remaining embryos not selected for implantation by the parents are discarded. This need never be the case, as the NEDC will accept and care for those remaining embryos free of charge no matter the circumstances regarding their creation. When parents implant an embryo of a specific sex first and then plan to "use" all of the remaining embryos later in future attempts at pregnancy, Dr. Keenan does not see an ethical problem.

To speak with Dr. Keenan for your story, program or podcast, please get in touch with NEDC Marketing Director Mark Mellinger at mmellinger@baby4me.net or (865) 777-2013 x4.
