ENUMCLAW, Wash., July 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- "In the United States, heart disease is the #1 killer of both women and men. It affects many people at midlife, as well as in old age... Fifty percent of men and 64 percent of women who die suddenly of heart disease have no previous symptoms. Don't wait for your doctor to mention heart disease or its risk factors. Many physicians don't routinely bring up the topic, especially with their female patients. New research shows that women are less likely than men to receive heart healthy recommendations from their doctors."*

One week after the precipitous attack on the Twin Towers in New York City, 40-year-old Cindy Valenti-Scinto experienced her own unexpected assault. With no heart disease risk factors to point to, this healthy woman, who ate a mostly vegetarian, organic diet, had a heart attack. After forty operations and several brushes with death, Valenti-Scinto received a miraculous life-saving heart transplant. She credits her faith in God and the toughness learned from growing up in a large Italian family with giving her the strength to endure it all.

Although Cindy still battles major health issues, including a post-transplant cancer-type virus that will always lurk in her body, she continues to share what God taught her through this frightening ordeal. When asked how she does it, Valenti-Scinto says, "I never stop . . . I grew up in a large family of twelve kids back in NY. My mom and dad taught us to work hard. Ecclesiastes 10:10 is my life motto: 'If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success. (NIV)'" Her new book, "A Heart like Mine" is targeted to people who are suffering at any level, whether it's health, divorce, or any difficult situation.

As a busy speaker whose story has been covered in numerous articles and news programs, Cindy hopes to not only inspire others through her experience but to also equip readers for any trial they might face, and help them tap into God's strength and power.
