WINCHESTER, Va., Oct. 31, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- ECFA announced today the accreditation of Mariners Church, a non-denominational evangelical church with campuses in Irvine, Huntington Beach and Mission Viejo. The church joins more than 1,700 ECFA accredited organizations that have demonstrated their commitment to faithful stewardship, financial accountability, governance and transparency.

Accreditation is based on the ECFA Seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship™. Every organization privileged to display the ECFA seal of approval agrees to operate on the foundation of God-honoring, biblical principles. Adherence by all accredited organizations is verified by an annual review process.

An increasing number of large churches across the country are being accredited by ECFA.  They join churches like the Brooklyn Tabernacle, Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale, Cherry Hills Community Church, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Orlando, Free Chapel, Life Church.tv, Savannah Christian Church, Southeast Christian Church, Willow Creek Community Church and many other leading churches and denominations.

"We are pleased to include in our accreditation a church that is equally committed to changing lives for Christ and meeting the highest standards of financial ethics," said Dan Busby, president of ECFA.

Founded in 1963, Mariners Church's vision is "transforming ordinary people into passionate followers of Jesus, courageously changing the world."  Mariners Church has been faithfully reaching out to the community with the belief that every Christ-follower is a minister with a ministry.  "Rooted," Mariners' aggressive discipleship experience, has played an integral part in their mission to equip their congregation with the love and compassion of Jesus.

"Living openly and with transparency is a high value for the leadership and congregation at Mariners," said Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Moser. "We want the congregation and community to know that we are above reproach in how we handle funds. ECFA is an external verification of our financial integrity and shows that we are good stewards of the financial resources entrusted to us."

ECFA, founded in 1979, provides accreditation to leading Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with the ECFA Standards pertaining to financial accountability, fundraising and board governance.  For more information about ECFA, including information about accreditation and a listing of ECFA-accredited members, visit www.ECFA.org or call 1-800-323-9473.
