'The Runaway Pastor's Wife': New Novel Gives a Rare Glimpse at the Unique Pressures on Those Who Marry Ministers

NASHVILLE, March 28, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Former pastor's wife Diane Moody releases her new novel, "The Runaway Pastor's Wife," available now in paperback and Kindle at Amazon.com. Moody, whose husband was a Southern Baptist minister for more than fifteen years, writes a fictional account reflecting the struggles and disillusionment often encountered in the home and family of those in church ministry.

Annie McGregor feels like a widow--alone, empty, and dangerously frustrated. For years she has played out her role as the dutiful pastor's wife. And for years she had buried layer upon layer of the unique stress that's inherent to life in a church fishbowl. Until one day, she walks away from it all and boards a plane bound for Colorado. There, in a remote cabin high in the Rockies, Annie hopes to plow through her confusion, doubts, and gnawing resentments to face God one on one.

She has no way of knowing her college sweetheart Michael Dean is headed to the same cabin, terrified and gravely wounded. Their unexpected reunion couldn't have come at a worse time. Bewildered that God would allow Michael Dean to walk back into her life, Annie pleads with Him to keep her heart true to her husband and her family. God answers her prayer, but in a way she would never expect.

Back in Florida, Annie's family scrambles to find her. Her husband David faces unrelenting self-examination after finding the note she left behind. He wonders how he could have been so blind to Annie's pain. Like so many pastors, was he also guilty of infidelity--his mistress, the church?

"I've been amazed at the response of pastor's wives who see the title of my book," says Moody. "Without exception, they tell me how often that thought [running away] has crossed their minds. While Annie's story may be different from theirs, they can certainly identify with the situations she has faced as a pastor's wife."

Moody is also author of "Confessions of a Prayer Slacker" and co-author with Dick and Deb Church of "Don't Ever Look Down: Surviving Cancer Together," both published by Journey Press.
