WINCHESTER, Va., Dec. 12, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The holiday season is with us, and donors across America are thinking about year-end giving to charities. However, as the world economic downturn lingers, giving to large, mainstream charities is understandably down or stagnant. But surprisingly, giving to large evangelical charities is up.

Dan Busby, president of ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) and recognized among the nation's top experts in a variety of nonprofit financial topics, is available for interviews and comment on the recently released ECFA giving report, year-end giving advice and other related issues.

·         Just as consumers should be mindful of reliability when purchasing gifts for others, donors should know what charities are worthy recipients of their donations. Busby has tips for wise charitable giving in a season that's often rife with less-than-reputable groups seeking donor dollars.

·         The second Annual State of Giving Report by ECFA showed that in 2010 contributions to large ECFA-member organizations increased by 6.7 percent. Cash donations to child sponsorship gained 24 percent, orphan care 20 percent and adoption 15 percent. Why is this? What are the reasons behind stronger giving on the part of evangelical Christians, even in hard times?

ECFA's year-end giving press kit, which contains a news release, tips on wise giving, an opinion piece on evangelicals giving faithfully in hard times, and Busby's bio and photo, can be found at www.ecfa.org/YearEndGiving.

Also, ECFA charities in your area can be located for interviews by going to ServantMatch® (www.ecfa.org/ServantMatch.aspx).
