BOSTON, June 16, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- A summit of 140 leaders drawn from six continents will convene in Boston, Massachusetts 20-24 June 2011 to finalize The Lausanne Movement's strategic plan for the next ten years. You will receive a media release following this meeting, to announce the plan, and the names of new appointments.

The Cape Town Commitment has now been launched in nearly 20 languages. Read it at www.lausanne.org/ctcommitment.

Doug Birdsall, Executive Chairman of The Lausanne Movement said, "We gathered Christian leaders from 198 nations in October. The Cape Town Commitment captures what we discerned as critical issues facing the church. Our goal in the Boston summit is to turn ten days of Congress discussion into a roadmap for The Lausanne Movement over the next ten years."

BACKGROUND FOR EDITORS

The Lausanne Movement grew out of the 1974 Congress on World Evangelization held in Lausanne, Switzerland, at the invitation of Dr Billy Graham. John Stott was chief architect of The Lausanne Covenant which issued from this gathering; it is widely regarded as one of the most significant documents in modern church history.

A second Lausanne Congress took place in Manila, Philippines in 1989.

The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization (Cape Town 2010) drew over 4,000 leaders from 198 nations and was probably the widest-representative gathering of the Church ever held.
