Family Institute of Connecticut Action Committee Celebrates Unprecedented Pro-Family Victories in Connecticut Primaries

HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- FIC Action Committee announced today that pro-family candidates won significant victories in yesterday's Republican and Democratic primaries.

FIC Action Committee spokesman Peter Wolfgang stated, "Martha Dean's landslide victory over Ross Garber for Attorney General was an unprecedented victory for the pro-family movement in Connecticut. So was Mayor Mark Boughton's win over Lisa Wilson-Foley for Lieutenant Governor. Abortion played a key role in both races. Garber was the only Republican primary candidate to receive an endorsement from NARAL. Wilson-Foley proudly touted her support for abortion at several Republican Town Committee meetings. The triumph of Dean and Boughton over Garber and Wilson-Foley shows that it does not pay for Republican candidates to support abortion and reflects increasing pro-life sentiment in the state and the country."

"In two races, FIC-endorsed candidates beat the party-endorsed candidate for the nomination. In the 22nd Senatorial District (Bridgeport, Monroe, and Trumbull), David Pia beat convention-endorsed Elaine Hammers for the Republican nomination. Pia will take on Senator Anthony Musto in the fall. In the 60th Assembly District (Windsor, Windsor Locks), long-time State Rep. Peggy Sayers won the Democratic nomination and easily beat back a challenge from convention-endorsed Milo 'Rusty' Peck," added Wolfgang.

"Two long-time friends of FIC Action Committee were successful in their bids for Federal office. State Sen. Sam Caligiuri won the Republican nomination in the 5th Congressional District to challenge Rep. Chris Murphy. In the 4th Congressional District, State Sen. Dan Debicella won the Republican nomination to challenge Rep. Jim Himes," observed Wolfgang.

"Last night was a very good night for FIC endorsed candidates. Never before in my adult life have CT's pro-life, pro-family voters wielded the influence they did yesterday. We are on the verge of an unheard-of presence in Hartford AND Washington," said Wolfgang.

FIC Action Committee endorsed six candidates for state office. Of the six, four won and two lost. Martha Dean (R-Avon), Mayor Mark Boughton (R-Danbury), Rep. Margaret 'Peggy' Sayers, (D-Windsor Locks), and David Pia (R-Trumbull) all won their races. Mayor Michael Jarjura (D-Waterbury) and John Samperi (R-Killingworth) were defeated.
