EDMONTON, Alberta, Sept. 20, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Taylor College and Seminary is pleased to host Pastor John van Sloten for a conference September 23-24, 2011. Van Sloten will be speaking on "The Day Metallica Came to Church," which is the title of his insightful new book.

Veteran Christian rocker Randy Stonehill, who marks the 40th year of his music career with a new album this week, will also be in attendance and will be performing two Metallica songs. While in Edmonton, Stonehill will also launch a world tour in support of his new CD Spirit Walk, his 23rd release.

Pastor van Sloten's book challenges Christians to hear the unmistakable truth of God's voice speaking in all things, just as the Apostle Paul did at the meeting of the Areopagus in Acts 17.

Taylor has also invited scholars and speakers from across the region to offer workshops this weekend. Eight workshops will be offered in addition to the three general sessions:

Workshop 1 -- The Absurdity of Ecclesiastes (Pastor Eric Brooks)

Workshop 2 -- Happy 400th, KJV! (Dr. David Goa)

Workshop 3 -- Artist's Exploration (Julie Drew)

Workshop 4 -- Use of Scripture in Ethics (Dr. David Williams)

Workshop 5 -- Four (Different) Gospels (Dr. Keir Hammer)

Workshop 6 -- I, Pharisee (Wes Graw)

Workshop 7 -- The Song, the Spotlight, & Spiritual Perspective (Randy Stonehill)

Workshop 8 -- Apologetics After the Flying Spaghetti Monster (Dr. Randal Rauser)

Interviews with the speakers can be arranged, and media attendance at the conference can be accommodated. Note: Registration for this event is free to all.
