OCP Selects Versatile New Mass Setting by Curtis Stephan for Worship Resources

Contact: Zach Laney, OCP, 503-460-5311

PORTLAND, Ore., June 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- To help parishes prepare their communities for the third edition of the Roman Missal, OCP has chosen five new and four revised Mass settings for initial publication in the company's missal and hymnal products. One of the new settings selected is Mass of Renewal by spiritandsong.com artist Curtis Stephan.

"For me, the challenge of setting any liturgical music is always to make it accessible for congregational use while keeping it musically compelling," said Stephan. "As a parish music director, I found that the settings we use most simply work in many situations--weekend parish Masses, daily Masses, youth Masses, Ordinary Time, or Lent--so in this case, flexibility was an added ingredient for me."

This parish-tested setting from Stephan will be included in an Order of Mass supplement, which will be made available to OCP customers using resources affected by the new translation.

"My goal was to make it easy for the faithful to truly pray the newly translated prayers in a way that edified the Mass," said Stephan. "We have the beautiful opportunity go to new depths of understanding and to rediscover what it is that we proclaim and celebrate every time at Mass."

More information on Stephan's Mass of Renewal and the other new and revised settings is available on OCP's new Roman Missal online resource page: www.OCP.org/NewMassSettings. This web page was developed to answer concerns church leaders may have regarding the implementation of the new Roman Missal.
