2-Day Christian Filmmakers Workshop Now Accepting Registrations for 2010

The Advent Film Workshop is back!

Contact: George Escobar, Advent Film Group, 540-751-1021

MEDIA ADVISORY, March 23 /Christian Newswire/ -- Independent films are on the rise. Inspired by movies like FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF, and COME WHAT MAY, students and professionals alike are embracing the vision to create high-quality feature films that honor God. Many Christians feel called to this growing "movement," but don't quite know how to start.

Advent Film Group is changing that. Their goal? AFG founder, George Escobar, explains: "Our mission is to train and raise up the next generation of Christian filmmakers." The AFG team believes one of the best ways to develop competency in budding filmmakers is to involve them in an actual project, being mentored by industry professionals.

In 2009, over 110 people from around the country came to their weekend workshops and received firsthand instruction from the makers of COME WHAT MAY. In fact, more than 10% of last year's attendees later became active participants in the making of HERO, Advent's latest film!

Workshop attendee Kylene Arnold said the AFG seminar gave her profound insight into the future of her filmmaking career. "I've been through 4 years of film school and I had never heard the business side of it," she marveled, "That [Escobar] included both the technical and business side of things was very helpful." Arnold is now working full-time with Advent Film Group.

Henry Jernigan, a professional speaker and comedian with over ten years of radio, television and advertising experience agreed that the workshop provided an invaluable look at the entire filmmaking process. "The workshop showed me the details from start to finish -- thinking through to distribution, marketing and your next films before you even begin your first film," he said. "One of the things I really liked was the constant emphasis on keeping God in our work."

The Cooks, overseas missionaries for 23 years, brought the entire family along. "We've been looking into film for the last several years," they shared. "This weekend gave us a realistic look at the logistics of the filmmaking business, the techniques of the filmmaking craft, and the essentials of the filmmaking ministry. We would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the Christian film industry!"

The next Advent Film Group 2-Day Film Workshop will take place May 21-22, 2010. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, go to the Advent Film Workshop website.
