The Gazette Says Vote Yes On Amendment 48

Contact: Kristi Burton, 719-661-8827

COLORADO SPRINGS, November 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Colorado Springs Gazette has joined in support of the historic Amendment 48, citing it in their ballot initiative overview as a "Yes" vote. Under the "Gazette's take on ballot issues",  which ran on October 29, the Colorado Springs Gazette outlines ballot issues and includes "YES on Amendment 48".

The Colorado Springs Gazette also published an Opinion piece titled "Personhood Amendment safeguards human life", in which amendment sponsor Kristi Burton explains the purpose of Amendment 48. "This clarification is necessary because when the original state constitution was written, the biological information we now have available didn't exist. This left an ambiguity that has been seized by special interests for their own purposes. The same special interests tried to keep Amendment 48 off the ballot. They claim they want choice, but they don't want to allow Colorado voters to decide this issue."

The article goes on to address scare tactics used by opposition to the amendment: "The Personhood Amendment isn't an attack on women's health care. Mothers also possess personhood and the amendment in no way endangers their well-being. Doctors and families are always allowed to choose to save the one life they can instead of doing nothing and letting two people die. Amendment 48 merely provides a common-sense foundation for making future decisions. "

The article continued to address the over 85 organizations supporting personhood, and the fact that the personhood amendment is supported by doctors.

Burtons article in the Gazette concluded with this summary: "It shouldn't matter if you vote Republican or Democrat or if you are Christian or atheist, we all have a responsibility to protect innocent life. Colorado voters have an unprecedented opportunity to do that by acknowledging what we know to be true. Vote yes on 48."
