WHEATON, Ill., April 23, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Wheaton Park District will host a new summer event, Gospel Jazz Fest, on Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 6-9pm.

"We're highlighting an up-and-coming area of music with top talent in the genre. People are going to be amazed at the caliber of artists," said Dr. Tracy Scott, founder of WPJC.fm, professor at Loyola University, and co-organizer of the event.

The musical lineup features both national and local Jazz figures, including:

  • World-renowned jazz saxophonist, Greg Vail, a nominee for the 2010 American Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year. According to Jonathan Widran, music reporter for the Huffington Post, Vail is "...one of smooth jazz's most durable saxmen."

  • Chicago's own, soulful voice, Robin Alexis, who according to Charles Heath (drummer for Chicago jazz legend Ramsey Lewis), "blends gospel, jazz, and soul into something wonderful."

  • Special appearance by Tanya Egler and the Steven Lambert Quintet.

The festival will feature a wine tasting experience, as well as a variety of delicious food available for purchase. This outdoor concert will be held in Wheaton's Memorial Park, located at 208 West Union Avenue, in downtown Wheaton.

"Wheaton's historic downtown and gospel music is such a happy marriage," said Scott. "Joyous music in a relaxing atmosphere that lets people connect -- this will be one of the best local events of the summer."

General Admission begins at 4:00pm. The concert begins 6:00pm.

This will be a private, ticketed event. Tickets for general admission will be $35 and are required for entry into Wheaton's Memorial Park. Lawn seating is also available for this Ravinia-style concert. Bring chairs or come early to secure limited bench seating near the bandshell.
