NASHVILLE, June 14, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Award-winning author and senior adult advocate Missy Buchanan maintains a busy schedule spreading a message of hope for older adults. A sought-after speaker on issues of aging and faith, Buchanan likes to remind older adults: "Your life isn't over just because you're older. You still have a lot to teach others."

On July 7 Buchanan will begin a tour of Tennessee and North Carolina, where she will be speaking to various older adult groups. The kickoff engagement will be at McKendree Village continuing care community in Hermitage, Tennessee. Buchanan will continue with visits to Wellington Place of Kingston, Echo Ridge Retirement Community in Knoxville, and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and Colonial Hill Retirement Center in Johnson City. In North Carolina Buchanan will be featured as a workshop leader July 10–14 at Soulfeast, an annual spiritual retreat sponsored by Upper Room Ministries at Lake Junaluska Conference Center. She will conclude her tour at Brooks-Howell Home in Asheville, North Carolina.

When asked how she, a Baby Boomer, became so interested in senior adults, Buchanan said, "My books were born out of real-life experiences with my own elderly parents. Though my folks are no longer living, I still visit a number of older adult friends each week at several different senior residence centers. They are my inspiration. In a culture that values youth, it is important to address the spiritual needs of our older adults."

Buchanan is the author of four books: Living with Purpose in a Worn-Out Body, Talking with God in Old Age, Don't Write My Obituary Just Yet, and Aging Faithfully. She hosts Aging and Faith with Missy Buchanan on BlogTalk Radio and has appeared on Good Morning America, The Harvest Show, and other national TV programs. Her book Don't Write My Obituary Just Yet was recently named a winner in the 2011 National Indie Excellence Book Awards.

Missy Buchanan is available to speak for senior adult events, civic and church groups, and retirement communities. For booking information, visit www.missybuchanan.com.
