WEST CHESTER, Penn., Feb. 23, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- When Catholics think of a typical faith formation program they usually think of studies that teach "what" the Church believes but not necessarily "how" to put those beliefs into practice. Now a new study from Ascension Press is changing the landscape of Catholic faith formation. "Daring to Walk the Walk" is helping Catholics live out the faith they profess by cultivating Christian virtue in their lives.

Created by Jeff and Emily Cavins, "Daring to Walk the Walk" is the first study in the "Walking Toward Eternity" series. "Our goal in this series is to help Catholics make real and lasting changes in their lives, changes that come as a result of putting into practice foundational virtues such as humility and faithfulness," says Jeff Cavins. "By encouraging an action step as a response to the instruction, the student is in a sense held accountable. This is what makes this study so unique and effective."

Liz Tolkach of Newtown, Pennsylvania summarized her experience of the study by saying: "It brings everything in our faith, everything that we learn from the Catechism... everything that we know about the Mass and the sacraments; it takes all of that and tells us how to put it in practice to really do what Christ is calling us to do."

The "Daring to Walk the Walk" study combines devotional reading of Scripture (lectio divina), personal journaling, group discussion, video commentary, poignant stories, and prayer. "In each session we illustrate what virtues like love and forgiveness look like. We learn what Scripture and the Church teach us about them, and practical steps for living them in our life. But that is just the beginning," says Jeff Cavins. "Now we must actually take the next step and begin to walk in love, forgiveness, and the other virtues. And so we conclude each session by turning to God in prayer with three simple questions: 'What is God placing his hand on in my life? What does he want me to do about it? And, when?'"
