Press Statement of Randall Terry Regarding Scott Roeder's Trial: 1/27/10

"When the rule of law and the law of blood clash, such as in George Tiller's death, we must not pretend that there is no connection between Mr. Tiller's shedding of innocent blood and Scott Roeder's act of violence against him. There is sowing; there is reaping."

"This jury has the right and duty to hear what drove Scott Roeder to such extremity. For the rule of law to prevail in court, Mr. Roeder must be able to tell the jury why he killed George Tiller. Otherwise, this trial is a farce, and both the rule of law and the law of blood are thrown aside. And as our nation's history proves, such contempt for law and blood has horrific consequences." -- Randall Terry

The "Rule of Law" and the "Law of Blood"

Press Statement of Randall Terry regarding Scott Roeder's Trial: 1/27/10

Statement of Randall Terry, Director, Insurrecta Nex

"The vast majority of the pro-life movement is committed to the rule of law, with a firm commitment to end child-killing by peaceful, legal means. 37 years of tireless political efforts to defend unborn babies proves this. In this trial, that commitment remains.

"But there is another law -- the "law of blood" -- written by our Maker. It is etched in the heart of man and the laws of nature, and we cannot escape its reality or consequences.

"When the rule of law and the law of blood clash, such as in George Tiller's death, we must not pretend that there is no connection between Mr. Tiller's shedding of innocent blood and Scott Roeder's act of violence against him. There is sowing; there is reaping.

"When considering this trial, remember the words of Abraham Lincoln: 'Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword,' as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said 'the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.'"

"Or apply the ominous warning of David Walker's Appeal (Written 1830) to the case at hand: "America is more our country, than it is the whites - we have enriched it with our blood and tears. The greatest riches in all America have arisen from our blood and tears: - and will they drive us from our property and homes, which we have earned with our blood? ... The Americans have got so fat on our blood and groans, that they have almost forgotten the God of armies. They forget that God rules in the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth, having his ears continually open to the cries, tears and groans of his oppressed people; and being a just and holy Being will at one day appear fully in behalf of the oppressed, and arrest the progress of the avaricious oppressors; for although the destruction of the oppressors God may not effect by the oppressed, yet the Lord our God will bring other destructions upon them..." (This magnificent, prophetic treatise can be read at http://docsouth.unc.edu/nc/walker/walker.html)

"These statements echo the words of Genesis: 'Then the LORD said to Cain, 'Where is Abel your brother?' He said, 'I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?' And the LORD said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.' (Genesis 4: 9-11) And again: 'For your lifeblood I will surely require a reckoning...' (Genesis 9:5)

"Precious unborn babies -- like the 60,000 slain by Mr. Tiller -- have their tortured bodies thrown into dumpsters where rats and dogs devour their bodies and blood; others are strewn in landfills to decay while vermin and maggots claim their earthly remains; others are flushed into sewers where their innocent blood flows to... the devil knows where.

"Their innocent blood cries to God -- as did the blood of slaves -- for vengeance. Will God ignore this deafening cry? Will we pretend their blood has no place in this trial? This trial is the place where the rule of law and the "law of blood" meet.

And as our nation's history proves, such contempt for law and blood has horrific consequences."
