Online Apologetics Conference Aims to Cast New Vision for Defending the Faith

Contact: Anthony Horvath, 202-280-7971, director@athanatosministries.org

LA CROSSE, Wisc., Feb. 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- Athanatos Christian Ministries is hosting an online apologetics conference that will take place May 7th-8th, 2010. The emphasis of the conference is 'literary apologetics,' which is the promotion and defense of the Christian faith through writing, and fiction in particular. The conference will take place entirely over the Internet, making use of advanced conferencing technologies that are available today.

The website for the event is www.onlineapologeticsconference.com

Christian apologist Robert Bowman, Jr. will provide the keynote address. Other presenters include apologists, authors, and scholars: Angus Menuge, Corey Olsen, Bernard Bull, Robert Velarde, Mary Jo Sharp, and Anthony Horvath.

Anthony Horvath, the Executive Director of ACM, cites C. S. Lewis, Tolkien, Sayers, MacDonald and Chesterton as examples of authors whose fiction helped promote and defend the Christian faith and explains, "The profound and lasting impact of these authors illustrate that you can get at someone through Story when otherwise they would shut you out. We want to drive publishers, authors, pastors, and congregations to seize on this reality and intentionally see Story as a vehicle by which they can present the Gospel and defend it."

Horvath adds, "It used to be that the arts were fully embraced by the Christian Church. We want to call the Church back to deliberately engaging the culture through the arts, because it's just a reality that people resonate with stories, songs, movies, and paintings. In fact, some people derive their entire worldview from such things. It is imperative that Christianity is in the mix, adding quality contributions to the culture we all swim in."

The conference, though carried out online, will provide many of the features that make conferences so enjoyable. For example, participants will be able to meet new people and converse with them throughout the conference. Also, depending on demand, there will be an exhibitor hall where participants can browse. There are, however, distinct advantages to the format: participants can give real time feedback to the presenters and they can attend from their office or home without the expense of getting a hotel and the hassle of making the trip.

Says Horvath, "This is probably the only kind of conference you can attend in your pajamas- or less."

Special discounts are available for publishers, literary agents, publicists, authors, and students and the conference is now accepting registrations.
