A Sheltering Tree Grows in Africa

"While we do our good works, let us not forget that the real solution lies in a world in which charity will have become unnecessary." Anthills of the Savannah, Chinua Achebe

WASHINGTON, March 24, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Leadership Council for Human Rights is moved by the wisdom of the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI. His vision of a united prosperous secure Africa was once longed for by renowned author, Chinua Achebe. The King of Morocco is implementing the hope of a continent to move into the future.

On a day that marks the death of a legendary son of Africa, Chinua Achebe, a King rises to provide hope for all of Africa. Achebe wrote about the conflicted world of traditional African culture and invasive Western values in novels such as "Things Fall Apart." Achebe brought realism to the plight of African peoples. King Mohammad VI of Morocco is bringing opportunity for a shared secure future.

Recent events bring to mind a quote from Late King Hassan II who once said that Morocco was a tree with its roots in Africa and its branches in Europe. But it is easy to paraphrase that quote: Morocco's growth and the King's vision are creating success that builds and promotes all of Africa as its branches shelter the world from terrorism and chaos.

While we in the West face a serious dilemma on how to best deal with the African Continent, Morocco has been pushing southward to establish cooperation based on human development, economic and security stability. King Mohammed VI approach is strong, viable and an example to the rest of the world.

A visit by the King of Morocco to Sub-Saharan Africa to establish a new process of inter-African development highlights the urgent need to deepen ties and support fellow African nations amid insecurity and terrorist threats in the Sahel. This Royal visit to Senegal, Ivory Coast and Gabon is a shining example of solidarity that can serve as a model for all African nations to work together as peers and friends, to proudly share a safe, prosperous and secure continent and a commitment to each other's prosperity.

It is a case of Africa helping Africans. The King of Morocco is seeking to build cooperation by investing and signing agreements that would strengthen inter-African economic, development and security cooperation.

This is not the King's first tour in the continent. He has visited a number of African countries and has shown a constant, keen interest in bolstering his country's relations and cooperation with other African nations. He has laid a foundation stone for renewed cooperation with Gabon, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The King's current tour evidences Morocco's resolve to sustain an African policy and an unfailing solidarity committed to helping countries achieve their independence, build unity and promote development for their people.

Despite Algeria's hostility towards Morocco’s territorial integrity, the visit of King Mohammed VI to Sub-Sahara Africa is always a renewal of African nations' commitment to protect Morocco's territorial integrity by backing its autonomy plan for its Southern Provinces, the Western Sahara.

King Mohammed VI wise approach provides the sheltering tree for free people and economic opportunity for all. His effectiveness in these efforts will diffuse extremism and give hope to us all. Chinua Achebe, another son of Africa, would be proud.
