Southwestern University Alumni Name IFWE Scholar Jay Richards '2012 Distinguished Professional'

MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 5, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Saturday, November 3, the Association of Southwestern University Alumni presented best-selling author Jay Richards, Ph.D. with the "2012 Distinguished Professional Award" at an awards dinner in Georgetown, Texas.

Richards currently serves as a visiting scholar at the Institute for Faith, Work & Economics (IFWE), helping to guide the Institute's research framework and communicate a biblical view on work and economics.

After receiving the award at Southwestern University, Richards noted, "I am honored that Southwestern is recognizing me in this way. Twenty years ago I could not have guessed where I would end up. But without the broad liberal arts education I received at Southwestern, I doubt I would have been able to do what I do."

As a visiting scholar at IFWE, Richards has contributed to a variety of successful communications products. In 2012, he wrote the screenplay for "I, Smartphone," a video short based on the essay "I, Pencil," and adapted from his two books, Money, Greed, and God: Why Capitalism Is the Solution and Not the Problem and Indivisible: Restoring Faith, Family, and Freedom Before It's Too Late. Richards also serves as a senior fellow at the Discovery Institute, where he directs the Center on Wealth, Poverty and Morality. In addition to writing many academic articles, books, and popular essays on a wide variety of subjects, Richards received a Templeton Enterprise Award in 2012 for his book Money, Greed, and God.
