WASHINGTONVILLE, NY, May 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- Motivated to write a book to help and comfort the over 5 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer's disease and the loved ones who care for them, author Marilynn Garzione is proud to announce the release of her book, Released to the Angels: Discovering the Hidden Gifts of Alzheimer's (published by iUniverse).

Released to the Angels is an Editor's Choice award winner and recognized as a must read by the Alzheimer's Association, Hudson Valley Rockland Westchester New York Chapter. Recently, Marilynn was able to share her story with Maria Shriver who's just produced, narrated, and aired her four part documentary, The Alzheimer's Project, on HBO. Released to the Angels is a touching collection of humorous anecdotes, thoughts, and observations of a devoted couple as they go through the progressive stages of Alzheimer's. It's the true story of Marilynn and Patrick who, when faced with a world being taken away, are able to discover that special moments can still exist in the face of loss and sadness. It is a celebration of life that will give hope to anyone facing a personal hardship, and comfort to those who may have a loved one in crisis.

"This morning I washed his hair at the kitchen sink. Then I brought him to the bathroom mirror and handed him his comb. I came back some minutes later to see him standing quietly, staring at himself in the mirror. It must have been one of those rare moments that he looked at his appearance. Patrick has kept his dark hair all these years, and although it has thinned somewhat with the passage of time, there are only a few strands of gray above, accented by more silver in his beard. He turned to me and with trusting innocence asked, '... can you get me some more hair?'"
