NEWARK, N.J., April 4, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian Screenwrite today announced the winners of its 2011 Christian screenwriting competition. Winners receive cash awards. In addition, each winning script will be read by representatives of PureFlix Entertainment, Reel Frog Films, and Central Avenue Pictures.

John Adcox of Atlanta, Ga. won first place for his action adventure THE STAR IN THE EAST about a baseball star, who after the death of his wife, races to uncover a priceless treasure and a 2,000 year-old mystery dating back to the first Christmas -- that is, if the deadly agents of a desperate noble don't catch him first.

"I am absolutely thrilled to win the Christian Screenwrite contest," said the full-time writer. "It was a true joy to write what I hope can be a fun action/adventure film in the vein of Indiana Jones or National Treasure with, I hope, profound, relevant spirit and heart. It means more than I can say to have that effort recognized. I am both humbled and grateful," Adcox said.

William Keller of Worthington, Ohio won second place for his drama FOR CARA about a sailor's quest to save a young girl from becoming a call girl to sailors or sold to a local man of means.

"I am very honored to be chosen as a finalist in the Christian Screenwrite contest, and I am especially grateful that there is an opportunity for recognition of screenplays that display decency and Christian ideals," said the retired sales executive.

Ashley Davidson of Atlanta, Ga. won third place for PRELUDE TO THE DANCE about sisters struggling with breaking the chains of unforgiveness and conquering sibling rivalry with the strength of forgiveness and the understanding of God's grace.
