New Technology Applied to Help Spread the Gospel

LITITZ, Penn., May 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Pocket Testament League, an evangelism ministry established in 1893, has developed a new web-based system to match people who want to share their faith using Scripture, with people who want to anonymously support their efforts.

Through a powerful new use of technology, sponsors can support the work of evangelism right from their computer. They partner with those who have a heart for reaching others with God's Word, and in turn those who are sharing their faith encourage their sponsors by posting stories about how they are reaching the lost.

Sponsors receive stories by E-mail and can review them in a dynamic News Feed area on the League web site, along with other status report information. Sponsors can set goals for how many presentations of the Gospel they would like to support over time, and see their progress towards these goals.

Through this unique win-win partnership, thousands of Gospel of John booklets are being given away every week, one by one, in high schools, homeless shelters, prisons, supermarkets, offices and even on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sponsors know they are working with an established, responsible ministry, and the Gospel is being spread in a mighty way, using the most powerful force on this planet -- the Word of God, personally delivered, in love, by a human hand.

The Pocket Testament League has 200,000 volunteer members who carry pocket sized Gospels of John with them and look for opportunities to share them with people they meet. These members have shared their faith with over 9 million people in the last several years. Some 25,000 stories of changed lives have been shared by these evangelists on the League's website in the last two years alone.

Many League members are students, prisoners, seniors on a small fixed income, the unemployed, involved in the military or in other situations that make it difficult to donate for the Gospels they receive. Through the sponsorship system, someone can sponsor a member for as little as $20. Each gift of $20 provides for 30 presentations of the Gospel. Sponsors are anonymous and receive stories from those they sponsor describing how the Gospels are being shared, including accounts of decisions made for Christ.

The website shows how many members are waiting for Gospels, and how many presentations of the Gospel are waiting for a sponsor.

The Pocket Testament League's mission is to mobilize and equip Christians to Read, Carry, and Share the Word of God. The League has recruited over 8 million members since it was founded in 1893, and has shared over 100 million portions of scripture. The League is headquartered in Lititz PA, and is a member of the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability. For more information, visit the League's web site at www.pocketpower.org.
