The Fear of Man Vs. The Fear of God

BELVIDERE, Ill., May 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Philip DelRe has been a chaplain at one of the most notorious jails in the United States (Cook County Jail in Chicago) for the last 18 years. He is the author of a new book entitled: The Fear of Man Vs. The Fear of God -- How to Get Out Of The Wilderness Into The Promised Land. He is imminently qualified to write such a book. According to eyewitnesses, "Chaplain DelRe walks right into the cell-blocks unannounced, turns off the TV, then teaches with such profound enthusiasm, the men not only listen, but ask for more."

Writes DelRe, "Most Christians do not share their faith in Jesus for the same reason most of the world rejects Him -- the fear of being labeled a 'Jesus freak' or a 'religious fanatic.'" Sadly, polls reveal that the majority of people who identify themselves as "Evangelical Christians" have never even attempted to "evangelize" anyone. That's the fear of man in a nutshell.

To illustrate his point, DelRe asks, "Imagine going out to a restaurant and your spouse says to the hostess, 'We would like separate tables please.' How would you feel if your loved ones were embarrassed to be seen with you in public? How do you think Jesus feels when we are ashamed to be seen with Him (praying in a restaurant or carrying a Bible, etc.)?"

The book began as a sermon. It was originally presented to a church of 3,000 people. Afterward, more than 900 requests poured in requesting copies of the sermon. DelRe says, "I have received letters and phone calls from people who say this message changed their lives. I finally realized, I had a book that needed to be written." One pastor called and said, "I gave up my ministry in utter despair. But, after hearing your message on the fear of man, I was so encouraged, I'm going back to my church (in South America) with a new vision and a lion-hearted boldness I never had before." Another pastor said, "When it comes to sharing our faith, I learned more in your three-hour seminar then I did in four years of seminary. We were riveted to our seats the entire time."
