WINCHESTER, Va., Nov. 27, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- As the calendar year quickly approaches an end, ECFA will present essential 2012 charitable giving regulations for churches and nonprofit organizations in a one-hour webinar, "Top 10 Year-End Giving/Receipting," on Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. EST.

Registration for the webinar is open at www.ecfa.org/Events.aspx. The cost is free for ECFA accredited organizations. As a special consideration, ECFA is offering the "Top 10 Year-End Giving/Receipting" webinar without charge to nonmember registered users as well.

Providing proper receipts for charitable gifts according to current IRS regulations is particularly critical at year's end as donors anticipate annual giving documentation. With the need for attention to important and sometimes complex details, this has become ECFA's most popular annual webinar.

"The generosity of donors makes possible the ministries of hundreds of thousands of churches and nonprofits across the nation, placing financial integrity and accountability as top daily priorities," said Dan Busby, ECFA president. "Year-end giving raises special challenges that require our utmost attention to administrate proper receipting and maintain the trust of all donors."

The top 10 concerns to be addressed in the webinar include timing of providing acknowledgements for gifts received by a church or charity during 2012, IRS-required information to be included on gift acknowledgments, handling requests for refunds of charitable contributions and more.

The webinar will be led by Busby and John Van Drunen, coauthors of two popular Zondervan guides: "Minister's Tax & Finance Guide" and "Church and Nonprofit Tax & Finance Guide."

Dan Busby, president of ECFA and a CPA, was previously founder of a Kansas City-based CPA firm, controller of a large medical center and CFO of a major religious denomination. His publications as a Zondervan author have been used by hundreds of thousands of nonprofit and church leaders for more than 20 years. He is a frequent speaker at national nonprofit conferences in more than 35 states and has logged 110 service years on nonprofit boards, including Christian Management Association. In 2012 for the third consecutive year, The Nonprofit Times honored Busby by naming him to the "Nonprofit Times Power & Influence Top 50."

John Van Drunen is a CPA, attorney and ECFA vice president and legal counsel, with responsibilities in managing the compliance program and writing and speaking on technical nonprofit issues. The Virginia Bar Association honored Van Drunen for his pro bono work with nonprofit organizations and assisting low-income individuals by preparing their taxes. He is a member of the Christian Legal Society, American Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association and the AICPA.
