BUFFALO, N.Y., May 13, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- It's largely accepted that Sunday is the most segregated day of the week. Blacks and whites, with few exceptions, worship separately. Christians preach about the transcendent love of Jesus Christ and how we are all one. Yet, most are content to remain in their own cocoons, reducing the notion of true racial unity to nothing more than religious dogma. Today, EEW Magazine, the nation's leading web publication for women of faith and color, is exploring the difficult topic of race and spirituality through its May 2011 feature story, Kim Cash Tate. The Women of Faith Speaker and author of Christian fiction novel, Faithful, is also the first African American fiction writer signed to Christian publishing giant, Thomas Nelson's roster. Her cover story is available at www.eewmagazine.com.

Tate, who grew up in the wealthy, largely African American Prince George's County, Maryland community, admits that she once wore race on her sleeve. In her conversation with journalist and EEW Magazine Founder, Dianna Hobbs, the Georgetown University Law School graduate shares how a move to a predominantly White city-Madison, Wisconsin, helped her discover an identity in Christ that transcended race. "I was moved by Kim's poignant and passionate message that strikes at the core of breaking down the racial divide that still exists in some segments of the Christian community," says Hobbs, who first became acquainted with Tate in 2010 when Thomas Nelson ran an ad campaign for Faithful in EEW Magazine. "Kim's transparency and honesty about her early struggles with race and spirituality really drew me in, and I think many of our readers will relate."

90% of EEW Magazine's quarter million readers are African American women drawn to the publication after failing to find online portals that reflected both their Christianity and ethnicity. It's no secret that diversity is lacking in media-Christian media is no exception. EEW Magazine is bridging that gap, and giving African American authors like Kim Cash Tate a strong platform to reach readers of color.

"We're honored that EEW is recognizing Kim and the power of her stories," said Allen Arnold, Senior VP and Publisher, Fiction, Thomas Nelson. "What first attracted us to this gifted author was the way her stories - and her life story - both address and yet transcend race. Her novels, more than most Christian or African American fiction - features a diverse cast of characters who authentically represent the larger body of Christ. It's exciting to publish this fresh new voice in Christian Fiction that doesn't define readership or characters within the novel on the basis of their skin color but rather on the basis of their choices and their faith."
