ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Sept. 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) released its list of the Top 50 Best-selling Christian books for the month of September. 50 focus primarily on the individual, whereas none of the bestsellers takes community as its subject. Ken Eastburn, a leader of the house church movement considers the lack of community-focused titles a commentary on contemporary Christianity. "Christians everywhere seem to be longing for community," says Eastburn. "Churches are overhauling their small group programs to create it, church members are spending immense amounts of time trying to build it and retreats are being undertaken in an attempt to find it. But despite our insistence on finding genuine community, individual Christian living still reigns supreme for most of us."

Eastburn serves as an elder at The Well, a network of home-based churches based in Orange County, CA that used to be a traditional Southern Baptist church before selling their building in 2005. They now meet in each other's homes, and Eastburn says that a strong focus on authentic Christian community is what draws the members together.

To balance the ECPA's list, Eastburn recently made his own list to encourage people in building community. His "Top 5 Books on Community" can be found on The Well's website, www.leavethebuilding.com under Resources.

The Well, hosts 10-15 members on a weekly basis at each of its five partner locations. Eastburn and other members post their experiences on a blog maintained by the church, www.leavethebuildingblog.com, for the purpose of interacting with individuals from traditional and house church backgrounds.
