Contact: Jennifer Minigh, ShadeTree Publishing, 888-390-6339

ASHLAND, Ky., May 14, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- ShadeTree Publishing kicked off their Summer Reading Celebration this past weekend. Free e-books were given away all over the world including the United States, Japan, Denmark, Canada, and the United Kingdom. ShadeTree Publishing will be giving away more free e-books every weekend from now through the beginning of August. The goal for the Summer Reading Celebration is to give away at least 100,000 e-books.

The book of the week will be announced every Friday morning on ShadeTree Publishing's Facebook page. Each weekend, a different children's e-book will be available on Amazon at no cost. Although the e-books are available in Kindle format, they can be read on Apple and other types of electronic devices by downloading the free Kindle app. All reading levels of books will be made available so that no one under the age of 18 years will be left out of the celebration.

Nearly all the books have received 5-star reviews from Readers Favorite. In addition, two of the books have received awards. "The Lonely Sunflower" won a 2011 Readers Favorite Bronze Award, and "Sarah's Gift" won a 2013 Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year Award. Several book series will be represented including the Zippy the Zebra Series, the Betsy Beansprout Series, the Deep Forest Adventure Series, and the Dare to Follow trilogy.

The Zippy the Zebra picture book series deals with bullying, self-esteem, and courage. The books show how Zippy (who does not have stripes like the other zebras) comes to accept himself for who he is and to appreciate that which makes him different. The series teaches children to celebrate one another's differences and to treat others as they themselves want to be treated. In addition, the series provides a discussion section for parents written by a licensed counselor to address many of the emotional struggles facing children who are teased for being different.

The Betsy Beansprout book series teaches kids how to have fun outdoors. Each book is written from the perspective of a six-year-old girl who lives on a state park, and therefore, considers herself a nature expert. The books are packed full of science and nature facts, as well as discussion points designed as questions from Betsy to the reader. This series is already a favorite classroom resource for teachers.

Deep Forest Adventure Series has a Narnia flavor and comprises chapter books about an orphan boy who overcomes the struggle of his own desires, while learning about justice and sacrifice along the way.

"Sarah's Gift" is the first book in Skye Wieland's Dare to Follow trilogy about a group of friends who find God and themselves in the midst of adventure, danger, and beautiful vistas. The books are geared for older teenagers and young adults.

One of the picture books being offered, "The Lonely Sunflower" was written by a nine-year-old girl. This book is used by parents all over the world to teach their children that age is not a limit and that young people can do great things too.

Several of the authors will be available at various local events. Amber Elmore will be celebrating the release of the "Betsy Beansprout Camping Guide" at Cabelas in Charleston W. Va. on June 1, 2013; Josh Hickey, the illustrator, will be there also. Candida Sullivan is scheduled to read her Zippy books at the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival to kick-off their Summer Read up Program.
