NORCROSS, Ga., May 17, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Georgia Right to Life (GRTL) today called on U.S. Senate candidate Karen Handel to join Congressman Paul Broun and Congressman Phil Gingrey by adopting a pro-life position.

"GRTL would welcome the opportunity to consider endorsing Mrs. Handel if she commits to protecting all innocent human life at every stage of development," said GRTL PAC Director, Melanie Crozier.

"We applaud her courage while at the Susan G. Komen Foundation to deny funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. However, she also has made it clear that she supports abortion in some instances," Crozier said.

Mrs. Handel has repeatedly stated that she supports abortion in the case of rape or incest.

"GRTL has the utmost compassion for rape and incest victims, but killing the innocent child for the crime of the father is morally unacceptable," Crozier said. "Further, many women have sadly learned that abortion in such cases is not the best answer for them either. Studies have shown that abortion does not solve the problem -- it only creates additional problems."

Handel's position on when human embryos merit protection is publicly unclear and she has stated she is against a Personhood amendment. We have invited Mrs. Handel to meet in order to clarify these positions.

The goal of most pro-life organizations, including National Right to Life, is to protect all innocent human life. GRTL encourages Mrs. Handel to adopt the same position.

To receive GRTL's endorsement, candidates are required to meet a single standard which commits them to protect all innocent human life from fertilization through natural death.
