ENUMCLAW, Wash., June 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Musician Lynn DeShazo releases her first book in conjunction with the 30-year anniversary of her most popular song, "More Precious Than Silver."

Written in 1979, "More Precious Than Silver" was first recorded on a worship tape by Christ for the Nations Institute in 1980 and then launched worldwide.

"More Precious Than Silver: The God-Stories Behind the Songs of Lynn DeShazo" (WinePress, 2010) celebrates 30 years of DeShazo's songwriting success and reveals the story behind a number of well-known praise and worship songs such as: "More Precious Than Silver," "Be Unto Your Name," and "Ancient Words."

In her 30 year career as a songwriter, DeShazo has published over 120 songs, many of them with Integrity Music for whom she has written exclusively for 20 years. "More Precious Than Silver" continues to be her most popular song.

"Even after all these years, I can't explain why it's still on the radar screen of songs the church is singing, but I am grateful it is, for whatever the reason. That little song has opened a lot of doors for me."

DeShazo's songs have been performed by a diverse and distinguished group of worship leaders and vocalists over the years. They include Leanne Albrecht, Rita Baloche, LaMar Boschman, Scott Wesley Brown, Travis Cottrell, Brian Doerksen, Fred Hammond, Kim Hill, the Women of Faith worship team, Graham Kendrick, Robin Mark, Don Moen, Marty Nystrom, Michael W. Smith, John Tesh, Paul Wilbur, and Kelly Willard.

After being asked for years about the history of her most famous song, DeShazo decided to share the history -- and the humor -- of its inception with her fans.

"If you're even mildly curious, the answer is: Yes! It's really true that McDonald's french fries and fasting played a big role in the writing of what would become a classic worship song."

DeShazo has also produced ten of her own music recordings to date including her latest in 2007: "More Precious Than Silver -- the Songs of Lynn DeShazo." DeShazo is a native of Alabama and a graduate of Auburn University. Visit Lynn at her web site www.lynndeshazo.com.
