Fifth Grader Rallies Classmates to Drill Well in Africa

YORBA LINDA, Calif., April 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- Students at Red Hill Elementary School in Tustin are working to help drill a well in Africa. When Abby, a fifth grader at Red Hill first learned about the millions of African people who did not have clean water, she was moved to do something about it. Abby soon discovered With This Ring (WTR) -- a Christian organization based out of Orange County, California that encourages radical giving to drill clean water wells.

WTR founder Ali Eastburn says, "Abby was determined to help and diligently worked to get the project approved by the school board." One year later, students at Red Hill are digging deep into their own pockets to raise the $8,500 needed to dig a well in Ghana, and they invite local residents to get involved.

Eastburn says, "Our mission is to change the world by encouraging people to give radically. And, it seems children, like Abby and her classmates, understand this mission -- often better than the rest of us."

Eastburn was also WTR's first donor -- radically giving her wedding ring to help drill a well. "I realized one day that I had the power to save lives in a third-world country through the wealth of the wedding ring on my finger," she said.

Since WTR began in April 2008, the charity has funded 13 wells in Africa, helping villages to eliminate many of the illnesses and problems caused by malnutrition and a lack of clean drinking water. Experts estimate that only 10 more wells are needed to eradicate the water borne diseases of the Yendi area of Ghana.
