ENUMCLAW, Wash., June 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- Approximately five to seven million Americans have been involved in cults or cult-like groups, reports The Cult Hotline and Clinic, with around 180,000 new cult recruits every year. Cults are characterized by control tactics, exploitation, and a dominant, often charismatic leader.

Lisa Lashawn Fikes was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. As a new Christian, Lisa was spiritually and mentally misled and manipulated by a pastor, whom she believes was the leader of a cult.

Today, Lisa's focus is to meet God's people where they are, to help them get off of the dark path of deception, and to seek truth. Lisa's experiences inspired her to write, "Journey to Purpose," her first book:

Lisa Fikes is a new Christian--and she's in love. However, Lisa soon realizes her new love interest manipulates everything around her, including her thoughts, actions, and beliefs. Based on true events, this is a story of counterfeit love and spiritual abuse. Now free from the imprisonment of this relationship, Lisa offers hope to those who seek light instead of darkness, to those who seek their life back, and to those who long for a relationship with the One True God.

Following the loss of her material possessions, family, friends, and her job, Lisa separated herself from her pastor and began searching for answers, hope, and healing from the brokenness and hurt. In the midst of the journey, Lisa learned how to identify truth and to value the importance of integrity, ethics, and good leadership. Lisa began to apply these lessons to her professional life and was able to begin the process of respecting leaders again.

A graduate of Drake Technical College, Lisa has worked in the Sales and Marketing Department of the Hospitality Industry for over seven years. She enjoys writing, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is very passionate about teaching and inspiring others to fulfill their God-given Purpose; she is currently working on her second book. Recently, Lisa discovered a new love for pets; she and her furry friends make their home in Huntsville, Alabama.
