Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of Concerned Women for America's Beverly LaHaye Institute will be joining a press conference at the National Press Club focused on the "Social Costs of Pornography" on March 16, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. Sponsored by the Witherspoon Institute and the American Principles Project, the press conference will convene experts from across the nation to present recommendations regarding the social costs of pornography.
Dr. Crouse issued the following statement:
"Pornography is a big business, and with nearly free rein on the Internet, it is reaching far more people than at any previous time in history. Pornographic images are now commonly bought and sold over the Internet, putting all children at risk. One study reported that the average age that a child sees porn for the first time has dropped from 11 years of age down to 9 years old. Just one wrong key stroke and a child has clicked onto hard core pornography.
"Currently, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is not enforcing federal obscenity laws, leaving producers and distributors free to spread obscene and graphic images through the Internet, on videos, CDs, and even on screens within public view.
"Sadly, porn is highly addictive, producing a desire for more and more explicit and obscene material. Some men feel compelled to act out the violent sexual scenes that they see depicted, leading to sexual assaults and child abductions.
"The public and the DOJ cannot continue to look the other way when it comes to the explosion of pornography in America. The personal and social costs to society are far too costly."
