Capitol Hill Developments Subject of Webinar

WINCHESTER, Va., Oct. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- From challenges to religious freedom to new procedures for handling ministry-owned cell phones, Capitol Hill is abuzz with a range of initiatives and issues that may greatly impact ministries nationwide. The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) will host a live, hour-long Oct. 20 webinar in which leading experts will discuss the impact of these and other topics on churches and faith-based organizations.
 
Registration is open for the 1 p.m. EDT webinar, "What's Happening on Capitol Hill?," which will address an array of subjects, including:
 
                    Charitable contribution limitation issues
                    Religious hiring liberty challenges
                    Religious liberty challenges
                    Issues affecting media ministries
                    Clergy housing allowance
                    New Form 1099 reporting requirements
                    Handling ministry owned cell phones with the recent law change
 
"There's so much happening on Capitol Hill that could profoundly affect how ministries operate," said ECFA President Dan Busby. "The ECFA Capitol Hill webinar will help churches and other faith-based organizations better understand the relevant issues and prepare them for the possible impacts."
 
Webinar participants will learn the status of various bills and initiatives on Capitol Hill, what ECFA is doing on and around the Hill and why it’s important for ministry leaders to let local politicians know the work they are accomplishing.
 
Webinar speakers include Stanley Carlson-Theis, founder and president of the Institutional Religious Freedom Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-area nonpartisan think tank that focuses on safeguarding the religious identity, standards and services of faith-based service organizations; Craig Parshall, senior vice president and general counsel for National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), whose mission is to maximize freedoms for Christian broadcasters; Bob Power, NRB's Capitol Hill liaison and vice president of government relations; Sandra G. Swirski, cofounder of Urban Swirski & Associates LLC, a public policy and government affairs firm in Washington, D.C., that advises Fortune 500 executives and leaders of nonprofit organizations; and Busby.
