STOCKTON, Calif., July 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- On August 7, 2010 a small army of volunteers equipped with barbecues, generators, powerful amplifiers and huge speakers will descend on Weber Point Events Center to throw a free party for the residents of Stockton California.

On August 7, 2010 Stockton, California will set its sails at the Weber Point Event Center. Stockton's churches, its ministries, non-profit organizations and some of the area's greatest entertainers are uniting to throw an unparalleled completely free event called the SOS Spirit Festival.

Scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with an anticipated attendance of 10,000, the Spirit Festival celebrates the spirit of this great city and its residents and shows Forbes Magazine and the rest of the nation that Stockton is definitely not one of the most miserable places to live.

The SOS Spirit Festival caps SOS Day (www.serveourstockton.com). On that day, Stockton's Christian churches mobilize their congregations to reach out to the community and serve it as one body with the love of Christ. As many as 2,000 orange-shirted Christian volunteers will canvass the city washing fire trucks, planting flowers, picking up trash, visiting the elderly and performing other acts of service with the belief that no act is too small to make a difference and that ordinary people acting in concert, can transform a city.

The Spirit Festival features concerts by some of the area's most talented Christian entertainers, spanning genres from blues to contemporary to rock and rap. A number of family-friendly shows and activities like a motorcycle show, a strongman demonstration by the highly acclaimed athletes of Radical Reality, a jumpy house and romps through the Events Center's play fountain will keep kids from age two to seventy-two happily engaged.

Everyone is welcome at the Spirit Festival. In keeping with the spirit of love and service of SOS Day, all the entertainment, food and the wide array of family-friendly activities is free to the public.

The SOS Spirit Festival is produced by Ambassadors of Christ (AOC)(www.ambassadorsofchrist.us), a Stockton-based grass roots ministry that provides people and churches with opportunities to reflect God's love through action by serving the community.

"This is our most ambitious undertaking yet but it is really just a slightly super-sized version of what God, AOC and our ministry partners do every month. It is our hope that this festival, through great music, entertainment, food and fellowship honors the almost two thousand SOS Day volunteers who served the city on that day. We also hope that it introduces the general public to the many faces of Christianity, and to the sheer joy of living in peace with God and serving him. At the festival the gospel will be enthusiastically preached. And sometimes, words may even be used."
