BRAMPTON, Ontario, Aug. 3, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Sonoma Church Brampton had it's first official service on Friday November 5 2010. It's a new non-denominational Christian church with a vision to do ministry the way Jesus did.

Each month the church holds a worship night with a guest band, a speaker night that covers relevant topics, a small group discussion night and a family movie night. The church initially started out as an outreach ministry, which then attracted a lot of un-churched youth, who started bringing their younger siblings, who in turn started bringing their parents and even grandparents to services.

They also do regular outreaches that include street evangelism, volunteering at senior homes, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and hospitals. On a typical street evangelism outreach, a team of 10 - 30 people will share free donuts, cookies, hot chocolate, water and other treats with people passing by on busy street corners, while the band plays music. Other members of the team hand out envelopes marked "our story" which contain testimonies of church members who's lives have been changed by Jesus. From November 2010 to August 2011, 190 people have reported given their life to Christ through this outreach, and the people who live too far from Sonoma have been placed in a church closer to their homes.

Other churches have taken note and are partnering up with Sonoma to start their own outreach efforts in their area, particularly in public spaces such as parks, malls, parking lots, busy street corners, skate parks, community centers and more.

Brampton is a city of approximately 500,000 people, and is one of Canada's fastest growing cities. There are over 100 churches in the area of all denominations and Sonoma Church is hoping to get each one to start up their own outreach.
