Bully-Proofing Works, but Christ Works Even Better, says Ministry Leader

GREENVILLE, S.C., March 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Research showing that bullying is on the decline is encouraging news from the playground. Experts who lead the research believe this may be the result of anti-bullying programs. Ministry leader, Laura Baker, believes that while anti-bullying programs that stress respect for others are good, children will not have the strength to see long-term change without a spiritual foundation.

"It's important to teach our kids that bullying is not acceptable, but without Christ, there is no power for them to change." Baker says.

Since the Columbine shootings in 1999, anti-bullying programs have increased. Children claiming to be assaulted by their peers dropped 6.6% from 2003-2008, according to a study that the U.S. Department of Justice funded.

"A 6.6% drop in bullying is significant, but I want to see more. When according to an MSNBC article, three fourths of children report having been bullied, it shows that this is a larger problem than any anti-bullying program can handle alone. These children need Christ in their life to be able to treat others the way they would want to be treated and to stand up under the pressure of being bullied." Baker says.
