Bishop Harry Jackson and International Communion of Evangelical Churches to Announce Formation of New Organization with Over 1,000 Churches -- DC News Conference, June 7
Contact: Jan Sherman, 301-343-6401

WASHINGTON, June 6, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- A news conference is planned for Tuesday, June 7, 2011, to announce the formation of the International Communion of Evangelical Churches (ICEC). This group of churches and ministries has been formed to answer the international cry for urban churches to participate in both evangelism and community transformation. The news conference will formally announce the nature of the organization and its goals within the current national and international context of the culture.

ICEC has been formed to create a structure for church planting, foreign missions and societal impact starting with the US, but eventually reaching around the world. The founding churches believe there must be a balance between the foundational work of evangelism along with discipleship and the "prophetic work" of speaking out nationally on matters of public policy. ICEC's founding leadership council consists of African Americans, Caucasians, Hispanic, and international leaders.

Speakers will address the most recent national remarks delivered by Minister Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. On May 17, 2011 this historically divisive leader offered words of "warning" to America's spiritual leaders as he addressed the American Clergy Leadership Conference's prayer breakfast in Chicago.

Bishop Harry Jackson and the leaders of the ICEC believe that Farrakhan is wrong about the fate of the nation. The ICEC Leadership believes that our greatest days are ahead, if millions of people in the nation will repent personally and realign themselves to God's purposes.

ICEC believes that America needs a Third Great Awakening in which the indigenous church of America returns to its biblical design. "Farrakhan is right about one thing," according to Bishop Harry Jackson, "somebody needs to repent." The clergy needs to lead the way to renewing America by repenting and changing their personal and moral direction.
