Christian Aid Leaders Urge Prayer and Fasting for Pakistan Crisis

Contact: Bill Bray, Christian Aid Mission, 434-977-5650

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug.18 /Christian Newswire/ – Christian Aid Mission is urging Americans to join in prayer and fasting for the survivors of the growing crisis in Pakistan. Some have already taken up the challenge, sending the money saved from skipped meals to Christian relief workers in Pakistan through Christian Aid.

Christians, like over 20 million other affected and displaced Pakistanis, are in need of emergency help now as massive flooding rages down the Indus River. Christian Aid was already involved in a campaign to send emergency help before the flooding began.

The good news is that Christian Aid relief is getting through to many of the 200,000 Christian families in desperate need of more emergency help.

"The crisis aid we sent in July for survivors of the persecution in Faisaladbad got through and is making a big difference," says the Christian Aid director for South Asia, "but now they need so much more since this is the worst flooding in 80 years."

Those wishing to help may give online or send contributions Christian Aid, Box 9037, Charlottesville, VA 22906. Gifts should be designated to fund code 470DIS. Credit card gifts are being accepted by telephone at 434-977-5650.

So far more than 1,500 people have died and three million are homeless from the flooding which began in the frontier regions of Peshawar, northwest Pakistan.

Even before the flooding, Christians in many areas were under a virtual state of siege from extremists according to eye-witness reports.

"Native missionaries are grateful for the help we are sending but the needs are increasing every day -- we must send more help," said the director.

"We will continue to send help to both the flood victims and persecuted believers in Pakistan," said the Field Director for South Asia, "just as we have for many years."
