COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., June 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- HCJB Global, an international media and healthcare ministry, announced today the 10 winners of its nationwide "Voice and Hands" outreach project contest. (See list below.)

The contest was designed to encourage and enable Americans both to pray and to reach out to their communities and the world during current, tough economic times. The contest is part of the "Me and My Household" initiative, which HCJB Global announced in February.

"We are thrilled to equip these 10 individuals as they seek to be the Voice and Hands of Jesus this summer," said HCJB Global President Wayne Pederson. "They really understand the vision of HCJB Global to declare and demonstrate Jesus Christ to a lost world."

Jon Hirst, Director of Strategic Communication, said, "It has been so encouraging to read through the many entries and see how passionate people are to impact lives for Christ. It was equally hard for our judges to come down to the final 10, but we believe that everyone who reads about them will be inspired in their own outreach efforts to be the 'voice and hands' of Jesus."

Among the winners is a nursing student, Kristin Vanderwell, from Jenison, Mich., who will work with children in Haiti impacted by HIV/AIDS and also work with an orphanage. Another winner, Chaplain Dennis Fruzza from Grass Valley, Calif., is helping coordinate an outreach to homeless military veterans to provide legal aid, health services and employment services.

The winners are going to minister in the United States, as well as countries such as Bulgaria, Uganda, China, Guatemala and several others. Details about the winning entries can be found at www.hcjbglobal.org/contest.

The 10 winners each received a $200 prize that will be used toward the implementation of their projects, as well as a Flip video camera to record their experiences.

"I can't wait to see the videos," Pederson said. "I'm confident, based on the creativity of the winning entries; these videos will show Jesus at work through the voices and hands of the contest winners in significant ways."

HCJB Global will post videos from contest winners on its web site when the projects are completed.

The title of the contest reflects the fact that HCJB Global is known as the "Voice and Hands of Jesus" around the world, because the ministry both proclaims the Gospel, primarily through radio, and provides practical healthcare aid to the people with whom it shares the Gospel.

HCJB Global's "Me and My Household" initiative is based on research that shows the ministry is reaching more than 1 million households in the Arab world through its radio ministry, along with the importance of the scripture Joshua 24:15: "But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

HCJB is offering a free prayer e-card at www.hcjbglobal.org/myprayer that Christians can use to send a prayer for their households to their immediate and extended families

As an encouragement to those seeking to reach out, HCJB Global also is giving away at www.hcjbglobal.org/resources a free "Voice and Hands Reader" that provides 30 days of devotionals and inspirational stories, along with worship music about what it means to be the "voice and hands of Jesus."
