COLORADO SPRINGS, March 30, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Tim Chey, the director of the acclaimed movie, 'Suing the Devil,' will commence shooting a new film, 'The Underground Railroad' in December 2011.

A sweeping, high-profile, and ambitious musical film, 'The Underground Railroad' blends two powerful, redemptive stories into the background of Gospel/blues songs.

The first story will chronicle the early years of John Newton, the slave-trader who found God in a storm and became the writer of 'Amazing Grace.' The second story tells about a slave, Samuel Woodward, who escapes with his family to Canada. On their heels, is an obsessed slave hunter, JD Plimpton, who has never lost a slave. Along the way Samuel meets the historical luminaries like Frederick Douglass, Thomas Garrett, Harriet Tubman and other Quakers who helped the slaves escape.

"It's the ultimate redemption movie," says Chey. "We're planning to make this truly epic in scale."

The film will be shot in three countries and will involve hundreds of extras and a top-notch cast.

Chey's latest film, "Suing The Devil", stars legendary actor Malcolm McDowell as the devil who battles the character Luke O'Brien (played by Bart Bronson) and his wife (played by Shannen Fields, star of "Facing the Giants"). The other actors include Rebecca St. James, Corbin Bernsen, Tom Sizemore, and Ros Gentle. The film garnered the 5-Dove Award from the Dove Foundation and has wooed audiences worldwide. Exit polls place the movie in the 'Top 5 Faith-based Films of the Decade.'
