WASHINGTON, June 27, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) announced that Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Senior Fellow of CWA's Beverly LaHaye Institute, will be a plenary speaker at the "Moscow Demographic Summit: Family and the Future of Humankind" to be held at the Russian State Social University, June 28-30.  The Summit will be the first international conference focusing on the crisis caused by the worldwide decline of fertility.

Crouse said, "We hear a lot of rhetoric about overpopulation, but the real problem facing nations around the world is the decline of birthrates. The problem even has a name -- Demographic Winter.  In Russia the problem is particularly acute; they are losing an estimated 700,000 people each year.  This first demographic summit is important because revitalizing the family is the key to reversing the disastrous consequences of the birth dearth around the world."

Crouse added, "The current fertility crisis is an indictment against the Russian intelligentsia that chose an anti-family path that contradicted both truth and reality; now their future is at risk."

Crouse concluded, "If the current toxic cultural values prevail in the technologically advanced nations -- like the U.S. and Russia -- so that we continue failing to reproduce in adequate numbers to replace ourselves, future generations will look back in condemnation for our failure to consider the consequences of our selfishness."

Crouse, who was awarded an "Abolitionist Award" from the U.S. State Department for her work to end sex trafficking, also received the Leadership Institute's "Global International Leadership Award."  On June 29, Dr. Crouse will present a plenary address, "Demographic Winter: Choice or Destiny."  On June 30, she will be part of a panel presenting addresses on ways that government, religion, universities and non-governmental organizations can strengthen the family.

The Summit is supported in part by the World Congress of Families (WCF) and its Partners, including CWA. Speakers include members of the legislature of the Russian Federation, leaders of churches and denominations, scholars, authors, activists and world leaders.  Ironically, the Summit will be held at the historical Russian State Social University -- once the home of Communist International and later home of the Marxism-Leninism Institute.
