SAN ANTONIO, July 19, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- As a result of his sponsorship of House Bill 33, the Texas Taxpayers Savings Grant Program, The Justice Foundation has officially designated Representative Sid Miller as a Hero for Children, Parents, and Teachers. The Texas Taxpayers Savings Grant Program is a needed innovation for voluntary taxpayer savings in education:

·         It is a voluntary program saving Texas taxpayers over $2 billion in the first biennium.

·         Parents can choose to transfer their child from a public school to a private school and use a Taxpayer Savings Grant to help pay the tuition.

·         The state saves an average of $3,429 for each student who voluntarily takes the grant.

·         This voluntary program decreases school expenses to help cover our school budget shortfalls thereby leaving more money on a per student basis in the system.

·         All parents with children in public school now are eligible to participate. If they voluntarily choose to participate, they will provide a savings to the state of $3,429.

Allan Parker, President of The Justice Foundation, said, "If the rest of the Texas legislature had had the courage and wisdom of Sid Miller, we would have been able to save the State approximately two billion dollars worth of spending on education, which could have been used to meet other budget needs or relieve some of the shortfalls in education desired funding that the Texas legislature had to make. In addition, it would have increased efficiency, freedom, and opportunity for every parent of a child in Texas public schools.
