SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 6, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Bestselling author Teresa Tomeo today heralded NBC's announcement that it's locking the doors of "The Playboy Club" after only three episodes. A variety of news reports suggested that the network -- and Chrysler, one of the program's major sponsors -- had been deluged with complaints about the show's theme and sexually suggestive content.

"The cancellation of NBC's 'The Playboy Club' is a great example of grassroots media activism," said Tomeo, whose new book, EXTREME MAKEOVER, is out this Friday from Ignatius Press.

"NBC offended too many people with a show that degraded women and attempted to bring porn even more into the mainstream. People spoke up, and their voices were heard.

"They either didn't tune in or contacted advertisers -- or both -- and their efforts paid off," Tomeo added. "Let's hope NBC gets the message that viewers don't want this kind of raunchy, sexist content coming into their homes -- especially on the public airwaves and in prime time."

In EXTREME MAKEOVER: WOMEN TRANSFORMED BY CHRIST NOT CONFORMED TO THE CULTURE, Tomeo challenges women to shed the toxic images and messages that objectify and enslave them, and instead embrace the truth about their human dignity.
