MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 9, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Jim Cymbala believes the vision of a new fellowship for pastors is the single greatest need in the church today. Cymbala, Senior Pastor of The Brooklyn Tabernacle, is just one of the National Co-Chairs of The 6:4 Fellowship, focused specifically on the leadership priorities of Acts 6:4, which prescribes an uncompromising commitment to "prayer and the ministry of the word" as the core of Christian leadership.

In October 2010, approximately 30 of The 6:4 Fellowship's founding pastors met in Houston with Cymbala and H.B. London, who serves as one of several Honorary Chairpersons of the group. Together they signed a covenant that pledges each leader "to -facilitate a Christ-exalting reawakening of pastors to the sufficiency of the Spirit of God, the word of God, and the people of God through a return to the leadership priorities of Acts 6:4." Together, they aspire to see the impact of the Gospel in North America flourish with fresh supernatural power through praying pastors and congregations.

Daniel Henderson, a pastor for 25 years, left his position as Sr. Pastor of a Minneapolis-area mega church in order to give his full-time attention to this important effort. He serves as National Director of The 6:4 Fellowship. He believes that while many of the other associations and movements among pastors today are important, "there is no doubt that until church leaders begin to commit, coalesce, and communicate with one another around the clear priority of extraordinary prayer in pastoral ministry, we could thwart the revival we desperately need in our churches and our nation."

In a recent interview about the Acts 6:4 initiative, Pastor Alistair Begg, a well-known radio teacher, stated:

"If we begin to take seriously this Acts 6:4 focus and do what the apostles did, leaving aside other necessary important things to others, in order to do that to which we have been called, then who's to say what we are going to see? God is far more willing to bless us than we are willing to take time to ask Him. I am very excited about the very prospect of this."

This fellowship will resource and connect pastors through a membership-only website (www.64fellowship.com). Several times a month new audio interviews, video clips, book reviews, blogs, and featured resources will be offered to members to fuel their passion for "prayer and the ministry of the word." In addition, an interactive feature on the site will allow members to coach and counsel one another on vital issues of pastoral leadership, prayer, biblical study, church renewal, and personal growth. In time, The 6:4 Fellowship will sponsor regional and national gatherings that will incorporate a necessary and biblical emphasis on united prayer, along with clear biblical teaching and encouragement. Already, dozens of events are being endorsed and promoted by The 6:4 Fellowship to encourage pastors to a greater level of life-giving prayer and passionate spiritual leadership in the church.

The public launch of The 6:4 Fellowship is slated for February 15, 2011. For more information, go to www.64fellowship.com or contact james@64fellowship.com.
