WINCHESTER, Va., Dec. 6, 2010 /Christian Newswire/ -- Making correct IRS filings and minimizing taxes are important issues for ministries nationwide to consider early in 2011. The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) will host live, hour-long webinars Jan. 12 and Feb. 23 in which leading experts will discuss IRS requirements for congregations and tax changes for clergy.

Registration is open for ECFA's first webinars of 2011: "Congregation Filing Issues for 2010 Data" on Jan. 12 and "Clergy Tax Issues for 2010 Returns" on Feb. 23. Both webinars begin at 1 p.m. EST. Additional ECFA webinars scheduled for 2011 will be announced early next year.

"ECFA's first two webinars of 2011 will provide timely information for churches and other faith-based organizations," said Dan Busby, ECFA president. "January's webinar will help ministries comply with a host of complex IRS requirements. February's webinar will help clergy file tax returns that are not only accurate, but can reduce taxes as well."

Participants in Jan. 12's "Congregation Filing Issues for 2010 Data" webinar will learn how to correctly fill out IRS filings required of nearly every U.S. congregation. The requirements start with Form W-2, and for many congregations, include various versions of Form 1099. The webinar will cover what data to place on which form.

Participants in Feb. 23's "Clergy Tax Issues for 2010 Returns" webinar will learn about the multiple changes clergy must consider to file accurate income tax returns and to minimize tax. The webinar provides updates on 2010 changes and reviews what clergy can expect for the 2011 tax year.

Both webinars feature two of America's top church experts: attorney and certified public accountant Richard Hammar, who serves as legal counsel to the Assemblies of God denomination and is the author of more than 100 books; and Busby, who is the president of ECFA, a certified public accountant, and Zondervan tax and finance author for clergy and churches.

Registration for each webinar is free for ECFA members and $49 for nonmembers. A recording of each webinar will be available through the ECFA website after each webinar at no cost for ECFA members and $29 for nonmembers.
