MESQUITE, Nev., March 7, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- An extraordinary exhibition of holy relics will be held in the Catholic churches in Mesquite and Logandale from March 16 through March 18. The Relics of the Passion include a portion of the Crown of thorns, a piece of the table where the Last Supper was held, and a relic from the Cross of Christ. The exhibition is organized and presented by La Virgen de Guadalupe Church, with the sponsorship of the Nevada Knights of Columbus and the Apostolate for Holy Relics.

On Friday, March 16, the relics will be at La Virgen de Guadalupe church located at 401 Canyon Crest Blvd in Mesquite beginning at 3:00 pm with Stations of the Cross, Mass, and Veneration. On March 17th the relics will remain at La Virgen de Guadalupe church and will be available for veneration from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and after the 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. Masses.

On Sunday, March 18, the relics will be available for veneration at St. John the Evangelist church in Logandale after the 12:00 Mass.

The Christian practice of venerating relics comes from recognition of the many martyrs who shed their blood for the faith. Early churches were often built near burial sites of people who realized the promise of Christ superseded the promises of temporal life on earth.

The relics serve as reminders that the death of Jesus brings the hope of eternal life. There is no relic of the body of Christ because a core belief of the Christian faith is the Resurrection.

"The veneration of relics is a means by which the spiritual part of us can be nourished," says Father Robert Pulhman, pastor of La Virgen de Guadalupe and St. John the Evangelist parishes. "Modern society offers so many ways to feed our temporal bodies and satisfy the many desires which pass so quickly. Quiet contemplation of relics reminds us that there is a spirit in each of us that longs for our heavenly home. Our spiritual nature, though often silenced by the cacophony of modern life, will find a silent reminder of eternity in the presence of the Relics of the Passion."

All are welcome. For further information, please contact Marco Ruellas at 702-400-3763.
