MADISON, Wisc., June 6, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Steve and Liz McConkey will begin 30 years in world-class track and field ministry in September, plus eleven years with the news-apologetics site Christian Investigator. The 2012 Olympics will be next summer in London.

Steve was born in Des Moines, Iowa. His first track and field meet was during a Dunlap Elementary School trip to the Drake Relays. After the sixth grade in 1968, he moved near Danbury, Wisconsin.

Liz is from Mankato, Minnesota. They both attended Minnesota State University-Mankato where they met and were married in the summer of 1980.

They headed to Western Kentucky University, a NCAA Division 1 powerhouse in distance running. While a grad assistant coach at WKU during 1980-81, Steve worked on his Masters of Public Health degree.

After graduating with honors at Western, Steve and his wife decided to go into world-class track and field ministry instead of medical school. After raising support for a year, he became the Head Coach of Athletes in Action in Eugene, Oregon.

From the fall of 1982 through the summer of 1992, Steve was a successful Director/Coach of post-collegiate Christian teams with headquarters in Eugene (OR), Dallas-Fort Worth (TX), and Minneapolis (MN).

In the fall of 1992, 4 WINDS dropped the team to start working with athletes on all teams. Currently, the ministry communicates with many world-class athletes. Plus, 4 WINDS distributes athlete testimonies worldwide to various publications.

Eleven years ago, 4 WINDS started a news-apologetics website called Christian Investigator (CI). Apologetics teaches Christians how to defend their faith. CI was started for athletes, but the vast number of readers are now non-athletes.

Also, Christian Investigator distributes worldwide articles on various issues that affect Christians. They have been covered worldwide by Fox News, Reuters, Associated Press, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, China Post, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, International Herald, etc.

Before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Steve and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) cleared up rumors that Bibles would not be allowed in the Olympic village. An Associated Press article from Beijing went worldwide to every major newspaper. Bibles were allowed in the Olympic village.

Before and during the 2008 Olympic Games, Christian athlete testimonies were distributed to the underground Chinese Christian church, estimated to be over 100 million people. The four Olympic athletes who had their testimonies distributed won 3 golds and 2 silver medals. Only two were supposed to win medals.
