ENUMCLAW, Wash., July 26, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ --  According to the U.S. Department of State, 2010 marked the 10th anniversary of key milestones in fight against modern slavery, otherwise known as human trafficking.

The United States enacted the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) in 2000 and the United Nations adopted the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons (the Palermo Protocol).

The exploitation of human beings for personal and professional goal is hardly a new concept. In the 1850s in the United States, victims tended to be African Americans; their advocates belonged to an illicit, informal network known as The Underground Railroad.

Author Robert Hinds' new novel, "Wounded Hearts," addresses the dangers and trials faced by early American abolitionists and their families, both physical and spiritual. A history buff, Hinds aims for authenticity in his characters' actions and motivations.

Protagonist Reese Wilson is only a boy when he witnesses the brutal murder of his parents for their part in the Underground Railroad. Although the past continues to haunt Reese over the years, he frequently remembers his father's words: God has his reasons for allowing what man could not understand.

Historical in nature, "Wounded Hearts" emphasizes forgiveness and salvation. Peace is elusive to young Reese; revenge is foremost on his mind. Fifteen years after their murder, Reese is a Christian husband, father, and successful farmer. As a Christian, Reese must decide once and for all how to face the demons from the past that have returned to torture him.

A small business owner, author Robert Hinds and his wife Paulette live in Tulelake, California. The Hinds are proud parents of five grown children. Robert is a member of the First Baptist Church, the Klamath Writers Guild, and the Oregon Christian Writers Guild.
