The White Buffalo: Contemporary Christian Art Gallery to Open in Texas

"Historically, Christian art has been bound by tradition and religion. Not here, not at The White Buffalo. These works of faith are breaking all the rules." Brock Cravy, owner of The White Buffalo gallery: Contemporary Christian Art

ABILENE, Texas, Feb. 18, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The White Buffalo, a contemporary Christian art gallery, will open at 2528 South 7th Street in Abilene on March 1, 2013. The gallery is currently the only contemporary Christian art gallery in Texas.

The White Buffalo was started by Brock Cravy, a Texas native who, after several years working in Los Angeles, has returned to his home state inspired to open a new gallery with contemporary pieces that glorify God.

The name for The White Buffalo comes from a Lakota myth that tells of the birth of a white buffalo calf as a prophetic sign of a new era of harmony and peace. Cravy sees similarities between this story and the hope for salvation and peace under Christ in the coming Kingdom of God.

Cravy came to Abilene under the worst of circumstances. Having lived the fast life as a media producer and director in Hollywood, friends had to stage an intervention to help Cravy overcome depression and alcoholism. During his time at a recovery center in Abilene, Texas he found a renewed relationship with God, and decided to put his artistic talents to work in new and creative ways in service to Christ.

One of Cravy's discoveries is Texas artist Latimer Bowen Ramsey. Ramsey describes herself as a "prophetic artist," meaning her colorful and powerful canvases result from an intense and intimate prayer life. As Ramsey says, "I listen for God's direction, and I paint that." Ramsey's paintings, drawings, and prints are based on prophetic symbols from the Bible like the Lion of Judah, and the Lamb of God, as well as scenes inspired by the beauty of Creation.

The White Buffalo will open with a reception at 7:30pm on March 1, 2013. Patrons will have a chance to meet Mr. Cravy, the artists and to learn more about the artistic/spiritual process at The White Buffalo.
