ROCKFORD, Illinois, June 30, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. John A. Howard, Co-Founder and Senior Fellow at The Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society, has announced that his new book, America's Best Colleges! Really? has been published by Crossbooks and is available at Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and Christian bookstores everywhere. The new book provides an "eyewitness" overview of the radical individuals, federal concepts and extremist movements which tore apart the educational philosophy based on Christendom that had produced America's phenomenally successful free society for centuries.

Steve Forbes, Editor in Chief at Forbes Magazine, describes the new book, "Sobering, Eye-Opening, thought provoking look for parents and students at what you actually get from a higher education in America today."

And the outstanding reviews keep coming. Herb London, President Emeritus, at the Hudson Institute, states, "For years various periodicals have rated American colleges and universities. Any astute observer of the higher education scene can see that the mission of the academy is in disarray.

One estimable observer of the higher education landscape, John Howard, has been arguing for years that the academic emperor has no clothes. In searing words and careful analysis, he makes his case in America's Best Colleges! Really?

It is a statement upholding the best of traditional purpose of education: the training of each generation how to live responsibly in their own society. John Howard documents the growth of the radical influences that displaced the educational philosophy that served America exceedingly well for centuries. Religion, family and patriotism are some of the casualties of this transformation."

Dr. Christopher Manion, from the American Foreign Policy Council, adds, "This book is a godsend for prospective college students – and their parents. Before investing (or borrowing) tens of thousands of dollars for a college education, perhaps they should "look under the hood." In this groundbreaking work, Dr. John Howard provides the roadmap, explaining how and why most of what passes for 'education' these days is simply headed in the wrong direction.

For more than sixty years, John Howard has dedicated his life to the defense of moral education, a requisite for the survival of a free society. Because he recognizes the critical role of the home as the child's first classroom, Dr. Howard anticipated early on the damage that the sexual revolution and the breakdown of the family would wreak on the culture. With that in mind, he founded the think tank that conceived and now conducts the World Congress of Families, a unique international organization that has a powerful and growing influence. This book offers indispensable insight that will change forever the way you think about the college of your choice.'"

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
John Howard returned from World War II with a commitment to use his career to spread understanding of the ideals and the behavioral standards which had enabled America's free society to become the wonder and the envy of the world. Judging that his goal might best be served within the educational system, he wrote his Ph.D dissertation on educational philosophy.

In 1960, John Howard was named President of Rockford College. Under his leadership, Rockford College adopted a new statement of purpose.

Rockford College was committed to build a new campus when Howard became President. When President Kennedy announced his intent to provide massive Federal funding for colleges, at the Trustees' request, he studied the advisability of seeking Federal funds and received the Trustees backing to build the new campus with private funds only. Subsequently, he mobilized twenty college and university presidents to persuade Congress that Federal Aid would be a disaster. That two-year persuasion failed, but every negative argument they presented ultimately proved prophetic.

Howard has given many speeches, more than forty of them published in Vital Speeches. He is also the author of Detoxifying the Culture and Christianity: Lifeblood of America's Free Society.
