NASHVILLE, Feb. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Kerry Shook, senior pastor of one of the fastest growing ministries in the country, will deliver the keynote at the 2009 National Religious Broadcasters Convention (www.nrb.org) in Nashville on Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 am. Pastor Shook's address, "Visual Parables--Beyond the Talking Head," will focus on his innovative show-not-tell approach to the pulpit.

"Hollywood spends millions on movies with no real message--they're just entertainment. Whereas the church has the most significant message of all, and yet we are afraid to spend money at all to communicate in creative and culturally relevant ways," notes Shook, who co-founded Woodlands Church in 1993 with his wife Chris Shook. Today, over 17,000 people on average attend services each weekend at their Houston-area ministry.

Known for his highly creative methods, Pastor Shook often drives home Jesus's teachings and eternal biblical truths using a combination of theatrics, special effects, and even daredevil stunts both on and off-site.

For example, his sermons have been accompanied by simulations of natural disasters (for a series on where God is during painful times), actual motocross stunts (living God's word full throttle), bigger-than-life pirate ships (reclaiming lost treasures from modern pirates that steal our peace and joy), a real-time game of ping-pong with his wife (to demonstrate give-and-take in marriage), and Shook himself captured on video swimming with sharks (learning to trust).

Pastor Shook graduated from Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He co-authored with his wife the New York Times bestseller, One Month to Live: Thirty Days To A No-Regrets Life (WaterBrook). Over 1,500 churches to date have signed up for the "One Month to Live" challenge, which was launched nationwide last summer.

Kerry Shook Ministries, a worldwide television ministry, is broadcast on several cable networks and reaches millions of viewers in more than 200 countries.

Woodlands Church (until recently known as Fellowship of the Woodlands) is based in Woodlands, Texas with two satellite campuses in the surrounding area.
